Dr. Antonella Bongiovanni is principal investigator, leading the “Cellular Dynamics Lab” at the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation of the National Research Council of Italy in Palermo.
She worked as Post-doctoral research associate and Visiting scientist at St. Jude Children Research Hospital, U.S.A., studying the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway in skeletal muscle.
Currently involved in multidisciplinary projects that concern the cell-to-cell communication (i.e., extracellular vesicle, EVs) and the related active membrane and cytoskeleton remodeling in normal and pathological conditions. In this context, she is an active member of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) (IOC member of ISEV2021 conference) and a founder member and an Executive Chair of the Extracellular Vesicles Italian (EVIta) Society.
Dr. Bongiovanni expertise in cell-cell communication through EVs allowed her to recently contribute to the EV field through high-impact papers and reviews and being an invited volume editor for an Elsevier volume.
Dr. Bongiovanni also carries out dissemination, scientific training and tutoring for university and doctoral students.
Alongside scientific research and training activities, she has been involved in the application of Quality and Project Management methodology to research.
Recently, her studies are related to the cross-kingdom communication, focusing on extracellular vesicles released by natural sources and their use for human health (Coordinator of H2020 - FetOpen VES4US project, and participant in H2020 – FETProactive BOW project).
