After graduating in Biological Sciences from the University of Palermo (110/110 cum laude) he continued his training at the Institute of Developmental Biology of the National Research Council of Palermo.
He then continued his training as a Visiting Scientist at the "Eukaryotic Gene Organization and Expression Laboratory", Imperial Cancer Research Fund London, UK (1989-1992) and later obtained an EMBO Short Term Fellowship from the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, London, (1994).
In 1994 he became a temporary researcher at the Development Biology Institute of the National Research Council of Palermo. In the same Institute, since 2000 he began his independent activity as head of the Molecular Allergology Laboratory.
Since 2007 he is Researcher Senior at the Institute of Biomedicine and Molecular Immunology (IBIM) and today at the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (IRIB).
Its main fields of interest are the development of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of immune system breakdowns with particular reference to allergic diseases (Parietaria pollen allergy).
In addition, in recent years, it is responsible for a new line of activity related to the study of the correlation between environmental pollutants and modulation of immune response.
He is co-author of more than 70 publications on ISI magazines and 5 international patents.
