Dr Domenico Nuzzo

Researcher

PhD Domenico Nuzzo is a neuroscientist of the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation - IRIB of National Research Council of Italy - CNR. He is the author of more than 60 scientific papers in indexed journals, he collaborates with research teams of various Institutions, mainly in the field of neuroscience.
He is Principal Investigator of numerous research projects in the field of food sciences all focused on the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. He is Guest Editor of numerous Special Issues focused on natural biomolecules and neurodegeneration.
He was the founder and vice president of "Multiple Sclerosis Association -Sacro Cuore- of Sicily", also he is a member of "Nutraceutical Health Enhancing Functional Food". He has developed his research activity within the framework of collaborations between public and private entities in the field of natural biomolecules for preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

- Using fitocomplex for regulating oxidative stress and inflammation on in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegeneration
- Formulation of different herbal mix for mitochondrial protection on in vitro and in vivo models of mitochondrial dysfunctions.
- Designing of functional foods or enriched foods using natural biomolecules for specific neurological disorders.

Responsability for Projects:
- Scientific director of the clinical research project “The Microbiome in Multiple Sclerosis”. Funding body: “Sacred Heart” Multiple Sclerosis Association.
- PI for IRIB of the project entitled Relancer une Nouvelle Économie (Re-Né), led by the Municipality of Balestrate. European project of international cooperation on bilateral Italy-Tunisia agreements.
