Dr Luigi Citrigno

Researcher

Born in Italy, Luigi studied in Calabria, Sicily, Florida and California. In 2011, he obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Neuroscience in co-tutorship between the University of Messina and the University of Miami - Jhon P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. Back in Italy, at the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, he is responsible for setting up an advanced Next Generation Sequencing laboratory as a researcher expert in functional genomics techniques (PONa3-BIOMEDPAR @ UMG project). During this period, he will be offered the possibility of a further period of research in the United States and then he moves to California at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he will deal with the isolation, characterization and sequencing of the nucleic acids contained in extracellular vesicles originating from tumor cells. Back in Italy in 2018, he became a CNR researcher. During the periods in Italy and the USA, he was involved in various and stimulating projects on genetics and molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases using and learning new cutting-edge technologies, focusing on the development of pipelines for the analysis of large amounts of genetic data and developing skills in: molecular pathology, mainly concerning human genetics and neurogenetics with advanced training in cell biology and molecular biology; linkage and association studies on families affected by neurological diseases; bioinformatics analysis; next-generation sequencing for nucleic acids with related data analysis.
