I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rome Tor Vergata with a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology. I obtained my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, where I discovered a new role for the Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein in breast cancer progression.
My scientific work has been published in several high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and part of my research is protected by a registered patent. I also work as a project manager and scientific writer for Horizon Europe SME Instrument, and I serve as a reviewer for multiple peer-review journals.
I joined the National Research Council (CNR) in 2019, where I am currently a Senior Researcher and Head of the JOI-A (Joint Lab for Organ-on-Chip and Integrated AI) Lab.

My research focuses on uncovering the mechanisms that drive human diseases such as cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders, and on translating these insights into advanced preclinical models for personalized therapy.
My work is rooted in the development of integrated platforms from the Digital Twin to the Organ-on-Chip, where microengineering meets human health to create systems that better capture patient-specific disease biology.
Within this framework, I design and develop organ-on-chip platforms—microphysiological systems that reproduce key features of human tissues. These models offer powerful tools to study tumour behaviour and to test personalized therapeutic strategies with greater accuracy and translational relevance. By combining computational modelling, digital-twin methodologies and microfluidic engineering, my research aims to bridge the gap between in vitro experiments and clinical applications.

This research is conducted in the JOI-A Lab, which I head—a joint laboratory established between the Department of Biomedical Sciences (DSB) and the Charles Darwin Department of Biology and Biotechnology at Sapienza University.
