Short Bio

I work as a permanent research support technologist in the Functional Genomics laboratories at IRIB-CNR, located within the CNR Catania Research Area. My expertise encompasses high-throughput genomic technologies and computational data analysis. Over the course of my educational and professional path, I have developed a multidisciplinary profile bridging biology and computational analysis methods, with both private and public research experience. My research interests focus on functional genomics applied to translational medicine (ERC domains: LS5_11, LS2_13, LS2_11).

 

Narrative curriculum vitae

I hold a five-year degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Messina (110/110 cum laude) awarded in 2006, and completed a postgraduate Master’s program in "Bioinformatics Technologies Applied to Personalized Medicine" at the Technology Park of Sardinia (Pula) in 2008. As part of this program, I completed a three-month international research internship in protein structure prediction at the Structural Genomics Unit of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Department at the Principe Felipe Research Center in Valencia, Spain.

I have over four years of experience working in a Toxicogenomic and Proteomic public–private laboratory established through a partnership between IBB-CNR and an international pharmaceutical company (Wyeth Lederle S.p.A., then Pfizer group, and Myrmex S.p.A.). Following this period, I joined the Functional Genomics laboratories at ISN-CNR in Catania with a one-year bioinformatics research fellowship. I later worked on a temporary basis as a technologist in the Next-Generation Sequencing laboratory at ISN-CNR in Cosenza, after which I also worked as a freelance scientific patent translator for a brief period.

Since 2018, I have held a permanent position as a research support technologist in the Functional Genomics laboratories at IRIB-CNR (Catania), with a four-year leave of absence to support my husband’s assignment to the Netherlands (Limburg). During that period, I volunteered actively in international communities outside of the scientific context.

I have been a member of the Italian National Order of Biologists (ONB) since 2007, and of the International Biometric Society (IBS) – Italian Region – since 2019. Since 2026, I have served as the coordinator of the Internationalization Working Group of the CNR Catania Research Area.
